What Are the WEEE Regulations?
Introduced in 2007, the UK WEEE Regulations require businesses to properly dispose of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) such as lamps, luminaires, and batteries. The aim is to prevent hazardous materials from entering landfill and to encourage recycling and the recovery of valuable materials.
As a business, you're legally responsible for:
- Storing waste electricals safely and securely.
- Using approved recycling partners.
- Maintaining records (e.g. consignment notes).
- Preventing contamination and safe handling.

Lamp Recycling
We provide Recolight RC6 and RC8 containers designed for safe storage and transport of used lamps, including fluorescent tubes and LED lamps.
RC6 & RC8 Lamp Container Details
Capacity: Up to 100 lamps per container.
Suitable for: All fluorescent and LED lamps.
Material: Durable Correx.

Price: £200 + VAT (includes delivery and collection)
Booking a Collection
Containers must be 90% full before booking.
Allow up to 10 working days for collection.
Longer lead times apply for Northern Ireland.

Battery Recycling (in partnership with Balcan)
Lightsave offers a reliable battery recycling service for small portable batteries through our partnership with Balcan, one of the UK’s leading battery waste specialists.
Whether you manage a hotel, bar, or venue, we’ll supply a compliant container and arrange collection — helping you meet your WEEE responsibilities without hassle.
30-Litre Battery Drum Details
Capacity: 30 litres (ideal for mixed portable batteries)
Material: High-density polyethylene
Dimensions: 520mm (height) x 249mm (diameter at neck)
Approved for: Lithium and standard small batteries
Cost: £275 drum & collection
Additional drums: £50 each (on the same order)
Collection: Free of charge
Containers remain the property of Lightsave and must be used according to Balcan’s safety guidance.
Safety & Storage Guidelines
To ensure safe collection and legal compliance:
Cut all battery wires and tape the ends.
Keep containers sealed and dry.
Store on a hard, non-permeable surface.
Do not include:
Batteries containing potassium hydroxide
Batteries requiring liquid activation (e.g. wet-cell batteries)

Pre-Collection Checklist
To help you avoid additional charges and ensure smooth collection, please follow the guidelines below.
Please note: Lightsave incurs charges from Recolight and Balcan if collections are unsuccessful or containers are non-compliant. We reluctantly have to pass these charges on, so we kindly ask for your cooperation in helping avoid unnecessary costs.
Before you book a collection:
Ensure the container is at least 90% full.
Only include approved waste (e.g. no luminaires or packaging in lamp containers, no mixed or incompatible batteries).
Store containers on a non-permeable hard surface.
Keep containers dry, securely closed, and in a safe, accessible location.
Avoid overfilling — contents must be below the fill line.
Let us know about any site restrictions or limited access hours when booking.
